It’s been a long day at work, and you’re hungry and tired. You are contemplating whether to wait until you get home and cook your own meal or simply go through a drive-thru effortlessly. On your way home you notice the golden arches. It is McDonald’s, the most recognizable fast food restaurant there is. Now you are excited to satisfy your stomach which has been growling all day. The best part of all is that it is dirt cheap. A double cheeseburger for less than two dollars no one can beat that. Now you can go home knowing all you have to worry about is what to do tomorrow. However, you didn’t think about the harmful effects, like the extra calories or what can happen later on in life if you keep fast food in your diet. Eating excessive amounts of fast food leads to health risk such as, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and obesity. Some of these health conditions can be life threatening. Is it worth your life to quickly satisfy your hunger, when there are healthier options out there? There are people who know fast food is not the healthiest choice it is still consumed on the daily basis. There is good reason for it fast food is cheap, quick, and can fill you up. Fast food is so convenient for everyone. Now, fast food restaurants are offering healthier menu items such as grilled chicken, fruits, salads, and wheat breads. These options are considerably better than the regular menu, but these “healthier” menu items still contain high amounts of sugar, salt, fats, and calories. These extra calories can add up to your recommended daily intake of calories in just one sitting at a fast food restaurant. The excess calories and nutrients leads to poor nutrition and health.
