An example of this is, “How his hair is growing thin.” Prufrock progressively gets older throughout the poem. It also says “how his arms and legs are growing thin.”
(line 44) This shows how old he has really got. He has realized that he has run out of time to find love. He asked himself, “Do I dare/Do I even dare disturb the universe.” This means that he thinks that he shouldn’t even try now because he knows that it is too late. When he notices this, it upsets him deeply. He is not a young man anymore and he cannot take back what he has done with his life.
Also, the author uses tone. One example is, “Do I dare disturb the universe.” (line 45)He means that he thinks it is too late to find love for himself. J. Alfred Prufrock is a man wondering about his past and what he should have done with it. He notices that it is too late by now. He wonders if it is even worth changing now or not. He has realized now that life goes faster than he thought it would and now he is about out of time. Prufrock thinks that he should not even try to find love because he has gone for so long without it he believes he does not deserve to share love with someone else. He also thinks that even if he did there would not even be enough time for him to spend time and love them like he would really want
