Love Reputation In The Love Suicides At Amijima

The Love Suicides at Amijima was a great story that showed the power of love, specifically how far one would go for love. In this story, there was a love triangle between Jihei, Koharu, and Jihei’s family. Jihel loved Koharu and was willing to leave his family to be with her. Jihei was an extreme lover, who wanted her to love him until the day they die. If Jahei was to die, then Koharu should kill herself. Koharu told him she would, but after much consideration, she did not want to die. Tahei was the extra piece of the puzzle. He hated Jihei and wanted to ruin his reputation and life. He tried desperately to break up the bond Jahei and Koharu had. In the end, Koharu and Jahei maintained their love and killed themselves. Love, responsibility, …show more content…
Jihei is upheld to a high standard in society, not only as a business but also as a father, son, and husband. Having a wife and a prostitute as a mistress damaged his reputation in society. The reputation of the prostitute can not get worse, as she is looked down upon and is looked as promiscuous and deceiving. Reputation is a big issue in our society as well. Some men are respected for their position in the society, such as being a Congressman, doctor, or athlete, but are looked down upon for their personal decisions, such as reluctantcy to support his children, drink excessively, or take mistresses. In our society, this occurs too often and is somewhat culturally accepted. All of the actions, including the poor personal decision making, is stimulated by love and affects the actions of the individual that disturb their responsibilities and reputation built in society. “The Love Suicides at Amijima” reminds me of the time when I first fell in love. I was so distracted that I placed spending time with my partner above all else, even deceiving my loved ones in a effort to enjoy myself. I noticed my emotions were extremely high and caused me to act like I would normally not act. I acted similar to Jahei in this story, except I did not have a family, kids, or acted that extreme. After the feelings faded away, I realized how radical I was acting and made a conscious decision that love was not for
