The Love Story Of My Grandfather's Family

Decent Essays
My grandparents are a lot of good things rolled into two people. They are sweet, thoughtful, caring, and amusing. They are like parents but without the strict discipline. I was interested in the time my grandparents decided to “court” and eventually marry since they love brought me into this world! Their love story is likely to sound typical, but to me, it is romantic and touching. They have been together for fifty some years, and my grandfather says it’s the same feelings and love as when he married her. The love they have for each other is touching and what I strive for when deciding for my own partner. They always have each other’s backs but are able to poke fun at the other. My grandfather’s father worked in on the railroads, while my grandmother’s father owned a multitude of land and farmed it. My grandfather and his older brother were working at a grocery store in the middle of town in August of 1962. The owner of the establishment was a lady by the name of Ms. Betty, and she was my grandmother’s aunt. Now, Ms. Betty really liked my grandfather. She thought he was handsome and a hard worker. Knowing my grandmother and my grandfather were about the same age, she introduced them to one another while my grandfather was working the cash register. They decided for the next night and my grandfather mentioned that he had never been so …show more content…
My grandfather told me during the interview that he knew from that moment she was the one he was supposed to marry. He “courted” her from August to October and was smitten. They went on dates almost every single weekend. I asked what his favorite things about her were and he said, “Her sweet composition, her love of God, her humbleness, and her ability to make him laugh.” They talked about marriage and my grandmother told my grandfather he would have to ask her father for permission. My grandfather asked why and all she said back was, “that’s just how things are Freddy.” Now, my grandfather has a cheeky sense of humor and is always cutting a joke. During the interview he said that Mr. Henderson [my grandmother’s father] was no play, all business. He asked his mother to drive in the car with him when he was going to ask him because he was so nervous. He went up to their house and told Mr. Henderson that he loved his daughter and would try his very hardest to make sure she was well taken care of. He gave him permission, and he asked her that very day on the way to a baseball game. She said of
