However, Zaroff’s and Rainsford’s beliefs keep them on different paths of life. For example, “ It is a very great pleasure and honor to welcome Mr. Sanger Rainsford, the celebrated hunter, to my home ” (21). In addition, “ I’ve read your book about hunting snow leopards in Tibet… ” (21). Rainsford has written books on his hunts, and is a very talented and well-known hunter. If Zaroff can beat Rainsford no other animal should give him a problem in the hunt. Also, “ God makes some men poets. Some he makes Kings, some beggars. Me he made a hunter. My hand was made for the trigger… ” (23) As well as, “ Hunting was beginning to bore me; and hunting remember, had been my life ” (24). Hunting is Zaroff’s life, he was born a natural hunter. However, when Zaroff gets bored he could use those abilities and skills to go to awful measures. Also, “ Hunting? Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder ” (25). Zaroff’s passion to hunt, has brought him to do despicable things. Hunting animals is one thing, a sport, it’s another to murder for the fun of it or for your own desire of killing. Lastly, “ Life is strong, to be lived by the strong, and if need be, taken by the strong. The weak of the world were put here to give the strong pleasure. I am strong...I hunt the scum of the earth… ” (25). Zaroff’s passion to hunt is relentless, hunting animals is a sport, …show more content…
Rainsford now understands how the animals he hunts feel. How their life is constantly in danger and how they have to fend for their life. He realizes how it feels to become helpless and how hard it is to fight back. Zaroff has never experienced that because he would always be the hunter, until Rainsford came along and actually fought back. He used his wits and used the material he was given to beat Zaroff in his own game. In conclusion, the characters learn that all life matters. As Zaroff said, he 's hunting the weak, but the weak can have an impact on the world too. Everyone that is in this world is here for a reason, everyone deserves to get a chance at impacting the world for the greater good. Rainsford learns that all life matters when he gets hunted. Zaroff’s underestimation of Rainsford leaves him understanding that “all life matters” because Rainsford shows him a lesson on how it feels when the tables are turned. A Good Rewrite is Hard to Find In his short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” Richard Connell tells the thrilling story of a skilled hunter named Rainsford, who washes up on a mysterious island where he falls captive to General Zaroff, a psychopathic man that preys on “the scum of the earth” simply for the thrill and excitement of the hunt. Connell builds suspense throughout the story through his use of dialogue and character behaviour. Richard Connell predominantly uses character interactions to build suspense as the plot progresses, utilizing dialogue to create a mysterious tone and to foreshadow the predicaments that Rainsford will soon find himself in. During the conversation between Whitney and Rainsford on the yacht, Whitney tells Rainsford that he felt an oddly distinct chill while sailing past the supposedly cursed island, even though "there was no breeze [and the] sea was as flat as a plate-glass window" (Connell 2).…

After Zaroff reveals his new animal to be a human, Rainsford immediately argues that what Zaroff is doing is cold-blooded murder. The general says, “‘It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason… I refuse to believe that so modern and civilized a young man as you seem to be harbors romantic ideas about the value of human life.’” (9-10). The endorsed savagery of his childhood and early masculinity depleted the general of his compassion and ability to make moral judgments. His energy for the chase and love of the refined, in the interim, drove him to degrade human life. Truth be told, Zaroff even acclaim his pure breed dogs over the lives of the mariners he chases. Connell depicts Zaroff's sharp-pointed teeth and smacking red lips to dehumanize him and highlight his ruthless nature. Unexpectedly, Rainsford finds that General Zaroff is much more awful than the "rubbish" he contemptuously chases, without all feeling and humankind regardless of his appearing social…
