The Lottery Ticket Exposition Analysis

“The Lottery Ticket”:
Exposition – This concept aids in the introduction of a plot by providing the setting, the characters, and other details that could provide the reader a better understanding of what is going on. “The Lottery Ticket” begins by stating that Ivan is a middle-class man who is satisfied with life and has a wife who bought a lottery ticket and asks him to look at the newspaper to see if they had won.
Rising Action – During this time of the plot, the reader begins to understand the character more and what conflicts these characters are attempting to find a resolution to. Ivan looks to see if the numbers are there. He doesn’t suspect much until he sees that the first few numbers begin to match. He and his wife get excited and begin to dream of what they could use the money for.
Climax – This is the most exciting point or the turning point in a plot where the reader begins to understand the outcome of the plot. Masha and Ivan

The reader is reading as if the story is happening in that instance. It does not always benefit the plot because time is vital to story-telling, for it helps the reader understand the plot and it is easier to follow a story when the reader knows the time of the events and when they are occurring. Therefore, “in medias res” is not always ideal because it could make the plot difficult to comprehend because the reader needs to be able to identify the conflict, climax, and resolution which cannot happen all at once. An example of this could be the short story “Happy Endings.” On page 22, the story ‘B’ beings as “Mary falls in love with John but John doesn’t fall in love with Mary…He comes to her apartment twice a week and she cooks him dinner. And after he’s eaten the dinner he fucks her and after that, he falls asleep.” The reader is reading as these events occur and there is no set time period and can happen at any

After viewing the short film “Our time is up” by Rob Pearlstein, I was able to place the five components of the plot structure diagram as presented in theatre class. The five plot structure is, exposition, inciting event, raising event, climax, and falling action. The exposition is the beginning of the plot, it sets the foundational background of the main character or the story. At the opening of the story, you see a time clock set, an immaculate environment where everything is not just clean but ordered.…

A Summary of Lesson 3 Actions In his previous two lessons, Joseph Williams stressed the importance of writing with clarity, correctness, and style. In Actions, he makes two important points: make the main characters the subject of a sentence and make the main action the verbs of a sentence (Williams, 44). Writers create clearer and more understandable prose for their readers when they revise a "revision" and turn a nominalization back into a verb. He identifies common problems, offers helpful tips, and includes nine do-it-yourself exercises that illustrate his concepts (33-44).…

The Lottery is a story about a ritual held every year in which everyone participates as a way of keeping order and following tradition. After names are drawn, the one that ends up with a black-dotted slip is murdered by the townspeople using stones. This plot of the story enables the author to prove a point; human society blindly follows traditions without any background information or factual reassurance. Although this ritual has been altered, the main idea of the ceremony, to kill or injure a member of the town, remains.…

In this article on WUNC.org of ‘Where The Lottery Ticket Profits Go’, Jess Clark writes about how the NC Education Lottery, which started in 2006, has only been going downhill from where they started and that during this decline, the ticket sales have moved from the North Carolina schools to the state of North Carolina; “About a quarter of the annual ticket sales went to funding public education in the state” (Jess Clark). Jess also interviews a few people who have bought these lottery tickets about their experience and what they would do if they win, DeShannon Korrea states that, “If I win, I will probably quit my job, help my family pay off their debts, and then, who knows?”. Jess states that Korrea can probably sleep easy even if she doesn’t…

However many Democrats and some Republicans believed that a state lottery would have been the way to go. Lottery proponents have argued for years that Alabamians are playing the lottery by crossing state lines; resulting in the state missing out on tax revenue that could be used to fund various education initiatives or patch the hole in the General Fund budget. By instituting its own state lottery, Alabama would retain the money that is currently being spent on lottery tickets in all of the border states that are benefiting from Alabama not having its own lottery. Although Governor Bentley doesn’t oppose a lottery, he points out that it would take years before citizens could approve it and the infrastructure could be set up. Coincidently,…

Who are you? This simplistic question can conjure a variety of answers depending on the person responding. The most intriguing and successful replies arise from those who respond with the ideal criteria described by Ramsdell (2010) in “Storytelling, Narration, and the ‘Who I Am’ Story”. Based on Ramsdell’s criteria for the “Who I Am” story, it is evident that writers employ similar aspects into their writing, as seen in Sedaris’ (2000) “ Me Talk Pretty One Day”, and in my personal literacy narrative, “The Weight of Clinkscale: A Learning Experience”.…

This leads the reader to make the connection to all that the protagonist does within the text and the initial meeting between the younger and elder Hamlet . It could be fairly speculated that the actions that are taken by the ghost of King Hamlet's character bring about the death of five separate people , all of whom died with different relations to King Hamlet . The ghost's appearance sets the revenge plot into motion , but it also delays the play ' s action . Shakespeare uses this method of solemnity…
