The book, “The Lost Hero” by Rick Riordan, is the first book of a new series of books following the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series. Rick Riordan has been known for his Percy Jackson series, and how he has shown his theme of Greek Gods. The Percy Jackson series was completely about Greek mythology. Now Riordan's new series is about the Roman gods, and their history and mythology. It’s interesting how this transition was made, especially since many of the Greek components still exist through the book. Riordan makes it work though. The book starts with a boy named Jason, a blonde, good looking teenage boy, who wakes up on a bus, dazed and with no idea of where he is, or who he is. They are a part of a school for troubled kids. Leo is in there for being a klepto with no parents, and Piper is in there for stealing her father’s car and attempting to run away. Jason however does not know why he is there at all, and has no memory of even attending a school, and has no memory of anything from before waking up on the bus. They go to the Grand Canyon and are attacked by a fellow classmate, named Dylan, who turns out to be a monster and tries to kill them. They very narrowly survive, with the help of their supervisor, Coach Wedge, along with the help of Jason and his unknown skills as a fighter. After the battle they meet a girl named Annabeth, who is looking for her boyfriend, Percy Jackson. This is where the two series start to converge. Annabeth then explains to them what is going on and what they are. She tells them that they are demigods. Half god half human people, which are gifted with godly powers. The three of them have very different ways that they took this information. Piper, immediately got upset at Annabeth, because Annabeth called Piper a half-blood, which is another name for a demi-god, but it can also be taken as a derogatory term for a half native person. Piper had been called that before, but not in a nice way. Leo took it like it was awesome, but also he was confused about it. Lastly Jason took it as a way to make sense of everything going on, his memory loss and the crazy monster that had just attacked
