Text to Text: A Demigod and A Wizard In The Lost Hero, Leo Valdez deals with being the third wheel to Piper McLean and Jason Grace. Piper and Jason were his only friends back at the school, and whenever they were together, they always seemed to ignore him. Even once they arrive at Camp Half-Blood, he is still being pushed away by them, though they were oblivious to it. Leo had hoped that once Jason had lost his memory that he would forget about his whole relationship with Piper, and that everything would reset. That it would be just him and Jason again. But now, Jason and Piper were heading back towards a relationship, and once again, Leo was being overlooked by them. Since around the fourth installment of the Harry Potter series, The Goblet of Fire, the affection between Ron and Hermione had become steadily more obvious as they grew older. In The Deathly Hallows, the feelings between Ron and Hermione are at their most prominent, and Harry feels more and more outcasted. On page 176 of The Deathly Hallows, Harry observes as Ron and Hermione are sleeping next to each other on the floor of the house on Grimmauld Place, holding hands. As Harry watches, he feels “strangely lonely”. Harry decides to get up, so that he doesn’t have to keep watching, and go looking around. This was one of the times when Ron and Hermione unconsciously showed signs of affection towards each other, and subsequently, left Harry out as a third wheel. This is also shown on page 625 of The Deathly Hallows, when Ron and Hermione share their first kiss amid the chaos of the Battle of Hogwarts. “‘Is this the moment?’ Harry asked weakly, and when nothing happened except that Ron and Hermione gripped each other more firmly and swayed on the spot, he raised his voice. ‘OI! There’s a war going on here!’” (Rowling, 625).
