Lost Boys of Sudan Over ten thousand boys who traveled to refugee camps in south and north Sudan for safety from the war-stricken country. Jacob Atem was one of the boys out of the thousands and eventually made it to America after his journey from across the country. His journey started in Sudan when he was only at the age of six, when it all happened when he was driven away. He was driven from his home by soldiers from the other side of his country when they invaded his hometown and tried to kill everyone there or enslave them. Jacob Atem faced many challenges before and after he made it to America. Jacob Atem is a six year old boy who lived in a basic town in Sudan but a group of soldiers invaded, leading him and everyone else to flee the place when this happened.

He left his town and eventually made it to a refugee camp. In the camp, he and everyone else only had one meal a day. He was placed with many other boys and women of all ages and eventually met Salva Dut when he was there. A while after he made it there, the soldiers drove everyone out of the camp to the river and were forced in. Jacob made it out of the lake with a few other boys and girls but Salva took charge and led them from that point but not all of them could travel and couldn’t get any help for them so they left them behind. After they left the place where the senseless slaughter took place, things were already hard for everyone. During the nights, the older men would keep watch when they slept during the day and traveled at night. They walked many miles during the trip to the camp. One night someone yelled at a lion, so Jacob naturally ran but cut his leg on a plant’s branch. When he finally made it to the camp, it took a long time for him to be chosen to go to America.
