Places like McDonald’s and Taco Bell are the establishments where many Americans indulge in the sinful fodder that is making them balloon up. They know how bad it is for them; they know that are not supposed to eat it, yet why do they continue to consume it? What makes fast food so appealing to Americans? If Americans know the consequences of this food, they should not ever eat it and they should focus more on consuming healthier foods. Most Americans are aware that food from places like Burger King, McDonald’s,…
Jake Dacayo English 115-03 Professor Kinkade 17th September 2014 An Account of “Don’t Blame the Eater” Will the vast amount of fast food restaurants around us play a major factor in our demise and unhealthy living? David Zinczenko in his essay, “Don’t Blame the Eater,” verbalizes that he empathizes with a cluster of children who are suing McDonalds for making them gain weight. Utilizing his very own experiences as a “1980s latchkey kid,” (para. 3)…
In Andrew Dugan’s article “Fast Food Still Major Part of U.S. Diet”, Dugan addresses the issue of the Americans unhealthy diet based around fast food. According to a survey conducted in 2013, every eight in ten Americans eats at a fast food restaurant at least one a month. Also, twenty-eight percent of the participants said they eat fast food about once a week, while sixteen percent said they ate fast food several times a week, and only three percent eat fast food every day. Compared to previous polls conducted in 2006 and 2003, statistics do show that Americans are gradually reducing their fast food intake. With rising controversy over if fast food is healthy for human consumption, Americans are starting to become aware of the unhealthy consequences fast food provides.…
Fast food is not only unhealthy but truthfully it’s not even food. The United States is one of the biggest countries with the most overweight or obese people. Obesity is everywhere in the United States not just adults but in kids as well. With today’s technology kids are starting to become less and less active every day, instead they want to stay inside and play video games. With the fact that kids are continuously eating fast food and not getting the proper exercise every day is leading them to gain…
Fast food had made people who are living in the present lazy, dependent, and unhealthy. Though it is popular, fast food has an overall bad influence on society. Initially, it is very unhealthy. As stated in “McJobs”, all of the food that is delivered to fast food restaurants is pre made and frozen when it arrives.…
It’s easy to blame kids for getting fat, it’s not like anyone put a gun to their heads and made them eat fast food, but here is where the lack of nutritious information and affordable healthy options come into play. If I’m hungry and the only food options I see on my way home are fast food chains, it’s very likely I will just stop to eat just because of the convenience of having it right there in front of me. Plus, prices and the quickness of service just makes the idea of a hamburger from McDonalds much more appealing than driving around looking for a healthier option that will probably cost more money and effort to find. I agree with Zinczenko that the amount of fast food restaurants in the United States is honestly really ridiculous. The amount of variation of sodas and fast food has become truly unnecessary and given the United States a bad reputation of quantity being more important than…
Once in a while as a treat, fast foods like McDonalds and Burger King are alright, but fast food has become an American staple. And that, is causing big problems in regards to our diets, lifestyles, and most importantly, our health. Fast food restaurants are really unhealthy for us. Recent studies conducted by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the University of Granada have proven that people who…
Over the course of time, Americans were getting fatter and vulnerable to more diseases. Americans eating habits changed. They chose meats and fatty foods, instead of food that contain nutrients, minerals, and vitamins we needed. While America grew, so did the people living there. Fast-Foods were growing nationwide and were cheaper, quicker, and easier to buy.…
Fast food is not meant to be a healthy meal. Fast food is suppose to be a treat every once in awhile not something you should eat all the time. A homecooked meal may take longer, but it has it’s health benefits compared to an item in the fast food menu. On the topic of eating right, David Zinczenko observed, “Where... are consumers particularly teenagers- suppose to find alternatives [to fattening foods]? Drive down any thoroughfare in America, and...…
The Fast Food industry in some eyes has been one of the smartest inventions this world has seen since the invention of the wheel. It has been driven by our stomachs and our wallets for 40 to 50 years and it's still growing to this date. The man who invented it can be called the smartest person, or best business man, this country has ever seen. The Fast Food Industry is so big that it has affected our health, changed our culture, and distorted our land ever since day one. Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser is a book about lots of charges that are backed up by some great research and lots of facts.…
Tired, grouchy or distracted in class? The reason could be the food you are eating. Many Americans today want to make their fast-paced lives as stress-free as possible by finding substitutions for cooking in junk food, a type of unhealthy food that most Americans enjoy eating because it is cheap, quick, tasty, and convenient. The high amount of calories in the diet and the lack of exercise has led to an increase in obesity in the citizens of the United States. There are many effects of junk food on obesity in America.…
For this first intercultural activity we all decided as a class, to have a wide variety of different foods shared in the classroom based upon everyone’s culture. America is a very diverse country. Everyday Americans are bombarded with images of fast, cheap, and easy food. It is very rare that a person can even drive down the road without passing a fast food establishment, and so as expected the ever increasing number of fast food restaurants has had a detrimental effect on American’s health as obesity rates climb. Also, the fact that most Americans have to drive places in order to reach their destinations safely and on time is a problem in itself that really harms their health. The film discusses at one point that a person needs to take 5,000 steps a day in order to maintain a healthy weight, a number I doubt most Americans can even count (This is a joke).Major changes are going to have to be made in American society in order for obesity to decrease, and they are already taking place. As fast food has grown so has the amount of healthier restaurants and even healthier options on fast food menus.…
He is on his way home. He had a more than average day, yet exhaustion still crept up on him sometime after noon. Now that he is off nothing is going to stand in his way of getting home. Home is where he escapes, where he relaxes, and where he can wash away the day 's pressure. Suddenly a scent veers his attention and the course he set, going straight home, has now become secondary.…
The fast food culture Fast food has been taken over people’s lifestyle choices when it comes down to eating. It’s all over the media and expanding in our community most fast food places put nutrition facts on their menu, but don’t tell their consumers about some of the GMO’s that are being used in their products. Why should we care about the fast food business expansion? Fast food expansion has overtaken the middle class communities, although what they are not aware of is their growth in power, lies and chemical corruption.…
