To simply read a piece of work accomplishes very little as does writing without sincerity. One has to believe in his work in order for it to be quality. J. R. R. Tolkien poured hours and years of his life into his work due to his passion and attention to detail. Tolkien constructed a number of languages for his work, something that very few authors can brag about. This demonstrates the dedication to his craft; instead of simply alluding to something he presented it in a real way as a couple of his created languages can be written and spoken fully. This goes for the time it takes to fully introduce a character and his role in the story, as well as the back-story and potential past experiences. In order for the character to properly work, all the little gears that make up the book have to align; time must be spent developing the flow in order to keep a sense of continuity. Often times main characters are limited to a couple roles in order to keep the details short and the story interesting. This lacks a wide variety of differences of characters for the reader to connect with, thus shutting out a potentially large audience. Encompassing a large variety of audience members proves difficult without proper care and attention to detail, as well as the time spent to fully develop the plot. The benefit to having a variety of readers lies within the ability to provoke greater conversation and thinking. Tolkien manages to include a large number of personalities in a fashion that is far from cluttered. Each and every character works in a congruent manner that is smooth and coherent. By including a variety of characters this allows Tolkien to highlight the main group, but also allow others to play an important role throughout his stories. When compared to other writings, authors often only include one or two main characters for the reader to attach to; this strategy severely limits the audience when attempting to connect with the book.
