Picking the most essential parts of a story can be very difficult. You can easily change the entire message of a book by just changing a few lines, especially with a story as classic and as meaningful as The Lord of the Flies. In the novel, The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of young boys become stranded on an island without any adults after their plane crashes. This story is all about their journey together as they try to survive and get rescued from this island. Although the book was written very well, it is very lengthy and there needs to be cuts made, and this needs to be done in a way that keeps the meaning of the book and the message the author was trying to get across the same. This quote shows the change in character and actions of the characters, which in turn helps move the plot along. The changing point in the plot begins at this part of the story because the boys are really starting to become more animal like and lose their civil qualities, especially Jack and the hunters because all they focus on is hunting and they complete forget about their wish of being saved. This is a very important part of the story and must be saved because it helps the reader realize how the boys really have started to change and it leads to the conflict the boys have about this issue. Additionally, this quote adds to the theme that the author was trying to get across throughout the story. Many of the boys have forgotten their civilian life at this point and are forgetting about their desire to be saved, including the leader Ralph, Without this section, the story would not have been able to show how fear and suffering can bring out the animalistic nature of humans. Near the end of the book you can tell that the boys are becoming more and more uncivilized over time, and the breaking of the shell causes the boys to lose all sense order and organization.
