Piggy is the type of person who does not stand up for himself.An example of this behavior is “ ‘They used to call me ‘Piggy.’ ‘Ralph shrieked with laughter. He jumped up. ‘Piggy! Piggy!’ ‘Ralph—please!’ Piggy clasped his hands in apprehension. ‘I said I didn 't want’ ‘Piggy! Piggy!’ Ralph danced out into the hot air of the beach and then returned as a fighter-plane, with wings swept back, and machine-gunned Piggy. ‘Sche-aa-ow! ' He dived in the sand at Piggy 's feet and lay there laughing. ‘Piggy’ ” (Golding 6). Because Piggy is constantly shut down by others, he tends to not stand up for himself; although, he does stand up for others. Piggy is the type of character that never changes throughout the novel. He shows his kindness to the others, “The small boy held out his hands for the conch and the assembly shouted with laughter; at once he snatched back his hands and started to cry. ‘Let him have the conch!’ shouted Piggy. ‘Let him have it!’At last Ralph induced him to hold the shell, but by then the blow of laughter had taken away the child 's voice. Piggy knelt by him, one hand on the great shell, listening and interpreting to the assembly ” (Golding 26). Golding shows that the nature of humans is essentially good in that Ralph, despite the deteriorating circumstances maintained a civil mind and good heart. In this same way, United States helped Europe fight against Germany dispute how easy it could have been to ignore or avoid getting involved. The U.S chose to do what is right and protect human rights. This shows that people are inherently good and are willing to help others in the most difficult situations. The United States didn’t have to help Europe, however, we chose to help Europe because we .would not stand by and let an evil dictator oppress so many people. In Golding’s book it was during World War ll time and the boys were able to see a part of it. There was a parachute man who landed on the same island as the boys. The parachute man was part of the war: “The life-like movement would scare them off for a moment so that they made a dark cloud round the head. Then as the blue material of the parachute collapsed the corpulent figure would bow forward, sighing, and the flies settle once more”(Golding 120).
