While the twins were on the mountain, they saw that “ It was furry. There was something moving behind it head-wings. The beast moved too” (100). When the boys found the parachutist for the first time they genuinely believe that it was the beast. From this point on, the boys on the island will become even more paranoid of the beast, although we know it doesn’t exist. “Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! . . . You knew, didn’t you? I’m part of you? Close, close, close! I’m the reason why it’s no go? Why things are the way they are?” (128). While Simon is talking to the Lord of the Flies in this quote, we can see the resemblance it has to the beast if not actually being the beast. The Lord of the Flies is no exception, as it uses many symbols in the story. However some of them have more effect than others.The Conch, represents order and authority to the boys stranded on the island.While they are on the island they encounter a imaginary antagonist that takes the form of the beast. Piggy’s glasses are an important part of the story as it is his vision, as well as it being the ability to start a fire.The symbols in Lord of the Flies are important to the story, and if we read the story without the ability to perceive these symbols, then the story would be drastically
