Everyone has a purpose on this earth. As human beings, our main purpose is to glorify God. To glorify God is to love Him with all your heart, soul, mind, and your strength, to love your neighbor as yourself, to be fruitful and multiply, and to go share the gospel to the ends of the earth. However, we serve a God who has made us intricately and uniquely. To live out our bigger purpose, we must take the calling and passion God has placed in our lives and glorify Him with it. As we go out into the world and find careers that bring joy to our hearts, we may touch a life we may never see. The Lord knew me before I was ever conceived. He knew what kind of woman I would be at twenty years old, and what passions would captivate my heart. The Lord knew what issues would make me weep. He knew that I would want to make a difference in this world in His name. When I hear the stories of people who deal with mental illness, there is something deep down inside me that desires to help them in any way I can. As a social worker, a psychologist, a counselor, or any mental health worker, certain personality characteristics need to fit the bill. Empathy, compassion, and wisdom are wonderful traits to have, just to name a new. As for myself, two traits that I possess that can benefit the field are intentionality and self-awareness. Within my intentionality, I try to ask questions that are thought-provoking and make sure my non-verbal communication matches my intentions. Making and spending quality time with someone, or a future client, is a priority to me as

My purpose in life is to serve others. My mother says this began at birth because I was such an easy baby so she could take care of my hyperactive and autistic brother; she says it is just naturally who I am, and I agree. This is the reason I chose to attend high school at St. Joseph’s Academy whose motto is “Not I, But We,” and whose mission includes “serving the dear neighbor without distinction.” This is also the reason I chose to attend a Jesuit University for my undergraduate career, as its mission incorporates making “decisions in the light of what is truly for… the service of those in need” as well as forming “men and women for others.” These ideals are my ideals, and I believe that this is what draws me to be an Occupational Therapist…

In a world that has become so narrow-minded and prejudice, getting a new perspective on things is more than wonderful. Literature has been able to do this such thing for as many years back as we can keep a record of. It’s tough to remember the first time that I heard the age-old question about the purpose of life because I’ve heard it so much. However, the first time that I really took time to think about this question was a few weeks ago. I recall waking up in the morning and asking myself a simple question, “What am I looking forward to today?” To my surprise, I couldn’t answer the question and I realized that I was currently living an extremely boring and meaningless life. I then stumbled upon another question, “What is the purpose of my life and what am I going to do in the future?”…
