My experience was different, for I learned about the environment from The Lorax. Many of Dr. Seuss’s books teach kids lessons, but The Lorax especially stood out to me, and it taught me what damages the Earth. In the book, the Once-ler is impacting climate change by chopping down Truffula trees, generating smog through his factories, and increasing greenhouse gases. The book showed me the impact of cutting down trees and polluting the air has on the environment. In addition, it lead me to think about what I can do for the environment. Over this past summer, I attended the Sustainability Leadership Institute at Depauw University. They taught attendees more about how we can help and improve our environment by cutting back on styrofoam and reusing materials. Furthermore, they taught us that farming is crucial in our lives and it helps protect the environment from large amounts of fossil fuels and trash with the extra packaging from shipments. Food at the farmers market is transported shorter distances and is generally grown using methods that minimize the impact on the earth. Learning these things helped me understand that growing your own food benefits the environment. At home, my dad and I grow tomatoes, radishes, peppers, and eggplants. Growing food in your backyard also benefits your health as it is organic. Even though I read The Lorax when I was younger, it taught me a moral lesson that I continued to learn about through my recent involvement in the Sustainability Leadership Institute.
The Lorax by Dr. Seuss has made me realize the importance of our environment; in addition, it helped me comprehend English and learn more easily. Not only has Dr. Seuss positively impacted me, but he has also affected many kids and adults of all
