In the beginning of the novel, Princess Alyss is characterized as being delightful, thoughtful, and likable. First of all, King Nolan thinks, “Even in her pouts, he thought his daughter a delightful creature. (Beddor 19) Since King Nolan, Alyss’ father thinks that she is delightful. This shows she is lovable because she is still happy and positive even when she is down. First of all, Alyss says “He looks so much like an ordinary Wonderlander.” Alyss thinks that Hatter looks different without his uniform. Thinking this reveals that she is oblivious because she doesn't really know anything about the people who protect her. Then “These people are no threat to me without you” said Redd. (Beddor 314) Redd, Alyss’s evil aunt says that the Alyssians aren't a threat to her if they don't have Alyss. This reveals that Alyss is fierce because with her Alyssians can beat Redd. Lastly, “She dressed herself in the Alyssians outfit and wanted to know what sort of figure she made the unfamiliar clothes.”(Beddor 232) The narrator narrates Alyss as being in an Alyssian uniform. This shows that she is a leading character because of how people don't even have to double think about following
