There were homeless people everywhere who were constantly scolded by the wealthy on a daily basis. I never felt sympathy for homeless people until I conversed with a man who told me his rugged life story. After this, I will forever look at the homeless in a much different manner. Before moving, I was aware of the city’s reputation as a crime ridden area. I learned the hard way, as I was a victim of theft and robbery over two separate events. I contemplated purchasing a firearm, and that’s when I realized I may have made a huge mistake by moving away from my parents. Factor in the paycheck to paycheck lifestyle I was living and I longed for a return to Arizona. I never planned on experiencing what I did, but life is unpredictable and full of disappointments. Although I was initially had mixed emotions on moving back, my desire to complete college as soon as possible was the main factor. The move to California can be considered a failed experiment, but I certainly returned a changed man with a newfound appreciation for life. Living in Salinas had its positives and negatives, but the positives are strong enough for me to move back to this region when I finish college. I now know what it will take to make the next return a success. Although one year is a brief amount of time, the year I spent in California will always be memorable because of how much it varied from the previous eighteen
