The civil war was the war between the Southern states and the Northern states over slavery. The story centers around two main characters Edmond and Octavia whom love each other. The story will focus on their love for each other and the loyalty that exists between them. In conclusion, the story was great and the ending was good, since Edmond told Octavia that someone had stolen the locket from him and it must have been the dead soldier, whom was mistaken for Edmond because he had the locket on his body.So Edmond and Octavia were able to live a happy life of love,we surmise that and actually the locket turned out to be Edmond's good luck charm after all.The writer actually kept the suspense in the story until the end because she never mentioned that Octavia had given Edmond the locket at the begining of the story, only when Edmond went to sleep and was dreaming of Octavia did the reader know of the locket and that it was given to him by Octavia. To the reader there was no predictability on what the outcome would be,because after the dream knowing the locket belonged to Edmond and then was found on a dead soldier the only thing the reader would think was the soldier was Edmond and he was killed in

Love is Caustic: A Look into the Similarities and Differences of Laustic and Bisclavret Throughout Marie de France’s many lais, she focuses on the many facets of human nature, such as who can be trusted, who will act accordingly to their rank and status in the court, who will be honorable and treat others with respect, and most importantly, who is most deserving of the love of another. By the very definition of the lais, being a love ballad of sorts, this is nothing surprising. What is far more shocking about the works of Marie de France is that she holds nothing back when it comes to the repercussions that her characters experience for their actions. The idea that love can nurture and help one grow is noted by Marie, but the opposite being…

Kate Chopin herself once said “She had resolved never again to belong to another than herself.” This quote fully embodies who Kate Chopin was and what she iconically stood for. Chopin was the unheard of female writer of her time. She was a woman a wrote about women - an astounding concept. Although presumably more well-thought of now than during her time, Chopin’s works were recognized among some of the most prestigious publications and organizations (Clark) -- that was until she wrote the highly controversial novel The Awakening.…

“The Storm” by Kate Chopin is a story about love, jealousy, deceit, lust, and secrecy. Set in the nineteenth century this impetuous love story takes on two forms of a storm: one being of physical characteristic and the other portraying an internal conflict resulting from a past relationship. This short story centers on the character of Calixta, a mother and wife, but also a former lover of the handsome Alcée Laballire. The external physical storm and the internal conflict storm set the theme of this story and connect what is happening to the characters with a physical representation. The external and internal storms that are portrayed in this short story are closely connected to one another as each symbolizes a cyclonic effect to the lives…

I hope to demonstrate the toxicity apparent in gender roles that have caused Bourgeois and so many others to fear them. The prose at the core of Louise Bourgeois’ piece details the fable she wrote, one that mimics her own parents’ relationship. “Bourgeois has often remarked that, in order to exorcise the painful memories of her past, it is necessary for her to reconstruct them in order to destroy them,” (Frances Morris (Louise Bourgeois), page 266, 2008) was noted by curator Brooke Hodge, and this can be found at the thematic heart of “She’s Lost It.” As a child, Bourgeois witnessed her father having an affair with her own tutor, and her mothers silence surrounding it. In France, where Bourgeois grew up, it was against custom for a man to leave his wife, so while her home life was stable, it was riddled with mistrust of those that Bourgeois was meant to love the most.…
