The art of writing is a scary process for me. I am not very confident in my writing skills, so I have found a few resources to help me improve. The resources that I have found to be beneficial to me consist of “The Little Seagull Handbook”, Paperrater.com, and “Business English”. First, “The Little Seagull Handbook” has a section to help me come up with a tentative thesis. It guides me through the steps and the questions I should ask myself as I ponder my statement for the main point of my essay. In the handbook, in section W-3b, it suggests:
1. State your topic as a question. (The Little Seagull Handbook)

2. Then turn your question into a position. (The Little Seagull Handbook)
(my example- The American Dream can different for each person.)

Qualify your thesis….consider adding terms such as may, very likely, and often to qualify your statement. (The Little Seagull Handbook)
(my example- The American Dream is very likely different for each person, because some people work hard on a daily basis just to be able to meet basic monthly bills such as rent, food, and utilities, so their dream may be to be debt-free. There are others who do have those same monthly bills, but are easily paid; therefore, their American Dream may consist of being happily married with children and the ability to travel the world.)
• Second, I used the website paperrater.com to check my spelling, grammatical errors, possible plagiarism, and suggestions to build my written vocabulary. This website allows me to copy and paste a written essay onto the website to be analyzed. Once the document is analyzed the website will offer any suggestions that will improve my paper. The suggestions include plagiarism detection, spelling and grammar check,style and word choice analysis, readability statistics, title validation, and a vocabulary builder
