Most children are too young to know the difference. In an article sponsored by the Pediatrics for Parents, kid care specialist Michele Knox says "It is plausible to argue that [corporal punishment] of toddlers will have a greater effect [than it does on older kids] because it occurs at a crucial developmental stage.” While you are hitting your children you could be affecting serious brain growth. Toddlers are too young to understand why you are spanking them and what they did wrong. The child doesn’t comprehend the good from the bad. They learn through words and tone of voice. Also, they do not know why they are being punished. In the article,titled Spare the rod? Maybe, it offers an alternative to spanking by simply talking to them. "You must go to your room. I'm so disappointed in the way you're behaving. You are a good boy, a smart boy, but you are annoying me." (Lemonick, Michael D.; Park, Alice.) This way you are addressing what happened and you have chosen a punishment like going to your room. This is effective because the child now knows what it did wrong. You also acknowledge that the child is smart and good but their actions are
