I was in pre-k. I knew the alphabet and how to read basic words, but not the more complicated ones. My teacher had read stories to the class and I was able to understand them. Everyone would sit around in a circle around her and she would ask which book we would want read. Then, we would play games that dealt with basic things such as the five senses and words. When I started school, in the kindergarten/first grade times, We were introduced to more vocabulary and more children's books such as “The Little Engine that Could” and “The Cat in the Hat” by Dr Suess. The teacher would let us read on our own as well as read to the class. Later in elementary school, I had built up a lot of vocabulary and started reading bigger books. The Magic Tree
