The Literary Elements In Where The Wild Thigs Are

The literary elements in Where the Wild Thigs Are, work together in harmony through the use of vivid illustrations. Sendak’s depictions of an enchanted land full of monsters and imagination, set the perfect tone for the characterization of the main character Max. Though most of the story takes place in this wild land, I feel it is important to address the story begins and ends with Max being in his room. As a child my room was “my space”, my room was a place where I was the boss. Max’s room was a place where he could be king and no one could tell him what to do.
In regards to plot, I felt the illustrations told the story first, the words were boring and the use of punctuation or rather lack of punctuation made it difficult to read the first

I did not consider Max a protagonist nor the Monsters or his mother as the antagonist. I guess “authority” and Max’s need to ignore authority would be the conflict. I felt as though the story was written through the use of third person point of view, since I felt like an outsider looking in. Max did not tell the story, nor did Sendak use personal emotions when describing the actions of the characters and their feelings. The theme was lacking a direct moral. My perspective of Max is that he is spoiled. In the end he was able to have a hot meal before going to bed. If his mother was sending him to bed without dinner to prove a point, she failed. I don’t think Max learned anything from his …show more content…
The subtle nuances such as the main male wild thing and Max had the same tail. The fork in Max’s hand in the beginning of the story was very similar to the crown he wore. As I mentioned above the way Max’s chest was bowed out most of the story, this showed his prideful nature. The way Sendak drew the wild world made me want to visit it. The detail in the pictures was incredible. The way he drew time passing was amazing, for example in the beginning of the story, the moon out Max’s window had a crescent in it, and by the end of the story the moon was full. It takes 3 weeks for a moon to go between these two cycles. However, by stating that the meal was still hot leads the reader to believe very little time had

My next step after establishing the plot was to create a storyboard. The storyboard required much design because I had to make executive decisions regarding which scene should be drawn to depict each stage of the Hero’s journey. The design required in my storyboard proved to be the most influential in guiding my later additions to the project. Pink described design as being the “combination of utility and significance” (Pink 70) and from drafting my storyboard I had to decide which scenes were not only vital, but also capable of best representing the flow of the narrative.…

The first thing that caught my attention in the Horse Dealer’s daughter was Marble’s face being compared to a bull dog. I thought she must look pretty ugly then. I also liked the way the author described Joe, with black moustache that he twists. It made me chuckle and roll my eyes because I could actually imagine the character twisting his stupid mustache while speaking in an English accent. I felt really engage with the characters at that point.…

Last Stop on Market Street is an award winning picture book about a little black boy called CJ and his grandmother who take the bus to work at a soup kitchen after church on Sundays. The author uses words and phrases very effectively within this book to really paint a picture of the city and it's people. At the beginning of this book the author uses figurative language to describe the air as smelling 'like freedom, but it also smelled like rain' this phrase goes a long way in identifying the setting as being beautiful and open, in addition, it also indicates the rain had just begun (Tunnell, 2015, p.18). Another example of the author using a phrase to tell the reader a lot of information is when CJ's Nana tells CJ that the tree's are drinking through a straw. CJ is aid to look for some time for a straw to no avail, the author uses this short passage to tell us that CJ is young and…
