The Listening Project
The film, The Listening Project, is an eye opening insight into what other countries think of America and Americans, the opinions of the people shown in this film were both positive and negative views of America. A concept that was explored was that citizens of America are also citizens of the world. Another concept that was explored was why it is important to listen to other people and what they think of us. I believe that to be a citizen of the world, one has to be open to the ideas of other cultures and countries and accepting and supporting of the way those other countries handle their affairs. I think some Americans think that they are just citizens of America and have no business learning about the diverse cultures around the world; however America is good at taking action when it will be beneficial to us. In this way, I believe Americans need to learn and understand more than they need to take action, not taking action and interfering in the business of other countries where we are not wanted may be a foreign concept to Americans however after watching The Listening Project I believe that other countries want us to understand and empathize with their plight rather than sending in troops and wasting our own resources and energy.

Reflective listening can be considered a key concept when it comes to the profession of case management. Summers states that “listening to another person in a way that indicates our concern for that person is important in the healing process” (pg. 154). Clients want to be able to express their concerns and issues to a professional that will listen to what is being said and respond in a helpful manner. Summers (2013) explains that the three purposes of reflective listening are to “let clients know you have heard their concerns…create an opportunity for you to correct any misperceptions… [and to] illustrate your acceptance of where the client is at that moment” (pg. 154).…

In Jean-Luc Nancy’s text “Listening”, Nancy discusses the concept of listening and how it relates to philosophy. Originally published in French and translated into English by Charlotte Mandell, Mandell discusses in the first section of the text how difficult it was to convey and translate Nancy’s message into English. In Luce Irigaray’s text “Listening, Thinking, Teaching”, she discusses the idea of translation and how difficult it can be to translate properly. On page 232 of her text, Irigaray states “words are endowed with another meaning in each language” (Irigaray 232). Because each word has a different meaning in each language, errors often occur when words are translated.…

We have all heard of Gandy, Martin Luther King, and Terry Fox. Even though these are all great example of active global citizens, I would like to research someone who uses new, unique and innovative methods to make the world a better place. They do this because of the belief they are obligated to do so, and that they are responsible to lead the world. Walt (2011) noted that Ronald Reagan has used the concept of American Exceptionalism to convey the message that there was a greater plan for America that was God given. In general, the American leaders believe and campaigned that America has some special power or authority over every other country. Many other leaders use this tactic for the same reason. This manipulates the American people to believe that there is a need to intervene in on other countries problems, and gives power to the country, and the “authority” to do so for their safety and potentially the safety of others.…

This documentary was mainly about the start of the war on terror due to the 9/11 attack in New York City. At first I thought this would be reliant on Bush and his actions taken before, during, and after the war. This documentary wasn’t about Bush nearly as much as I had thought, but mainly about Cheney and Rumsfeld. This documentary showed the actions of the White House as well as outside contributors, and what happened in Iraq due to these actions. The war on terror started out great.…

There were several interventions used on Mario such as Motivational Interviewing, Problem Solving Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. These interventions were chosen because Mario was ambivalent about some areas he wanted to improve in his life. He was also having a hard time coping with current and past issues and struggling with his way of thinking or his views on society. Self Assessment Analysis: Listening One major communication flaw of mine is my inability to listen to others at times. The idiom, “you have one mouth and two ears, so you should listen twice as much as you talk,” makes sense. However, it has been hard to implement this idea in my life. I have noticed in conversations that I sometimes “check out” and start thinking about other things, completely ignoring the person talking.…

This essay will reflect my philosophical approach to teaching through the analysis of a listening lesson that I have planned. This essay will be analysed according to my philosophical view on teaching, the three CAPS mentioned teaching approaches and the methods/techniques used in my teaching process. My teaching philosophy is constructed out of critical rationalism and partially out of Ubuntuism. According to Higgs & Smith (2015: 26 – 31) critical rationalism is a philosophy that fosters questioning and anti-authoritarian attributes. My goal as teacher is to enable learners to think for themselves and that is only possible when learners are given the freedom to ask questions without fear of contradiction from the teacher or the so-called…
