It made me wonder how I would respond to questions about their specific country. Many of these countries are not world powers, so would they be on our minds? I would have to really contemplate my answer. Listening to some of the negative things being said by other people about America almost angered me. I felt as though these countries were jumping to unrealistic conclusions. Upon further reflection, perhaps they were not jumping to conclusions but rather expressing their frustration or confusion through anger or hostility towards America. Many of the reasons given for their feelings were very justified. America had either not helped them when they were in need or stepped in when assistance was not needed or not necessary. I got the sense that the recent phase of America being a sort of ‘world police’ has offended and angered many people. It is hard to see someone else’s point of view when we have been taught one thing our entire lives. Is America in fact a “dying empire”? Personally, I would agree with this statement. If you compare America today to America 50 years ago; we do not have the same international presence we had then. There are other prominent countries in the world today. Other countries have growing economies and strong military forces. While we are still a very strong country, we have a very strong economy, and people generally respect our country, America is not the only country with these conditions and I think it is important to acknowledge
