Connection

“Outside, nothing but rain and darkness”. Percy, his Mom and, Grover were taking a drive up to a cabin when suddenly it started pouring rain and thunderstruck the whole area around them. I chose to connect to part of the book and quote because a few years ago I was at my grandma’s house for a family event and a tornado struck. I was swimming in the pool when suddenly the sky turned black, the thunder started roaring, and, hail started falling. It was such a scary moment for me and my whole family. We all had know idea what to do so we ran inside and watched the sweet little town we know tear apart. This was a text to self connection.

Prediction

I predict that in the book The Lightning Thief Percy Jackson is the son of Poseidon.

Many stories that are famous today originated from past legends of greek mythology, so let’s take a closer look at the popular Percy Jackson series. In the book, The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, the quest plotline, perfect hero archetype, and the good vs. evil theme have been modernized from the myth “Danaüs, Perseus, and the Gorgon” by Edgar Parin D'aulaires. Devising the quest plotline was the heroes protecting their mother, help from gods (and goddesses), they kill the same monster, and the evil suitor is killed similarly. The perfect hero archetype the heroes have also house traits like an unusual birth, leaving their family, supernatural aid, and they prove themselves on a quest. In the corresponding themes they protect their friends and family, save an important person, and there is a villain that tries to rid themselves of the hero to gain advantages.…

Even after the second time reading this book, this was by far my favorite series of all time. It mentions a boy by the name of Percy Jackson that has many problems in his life. This includes diseases such as ADHD and dyslexia, doing bad in school, and having a horrible father. However, this quickly changes when Percy is taken to a Camp Half-Blood, a camp for demigods, people half human, half god. There, Jackson finds this his new home and realizes all the campers in Camp Half-Blood have the same negative situations as him.…

The day Anna saved herself the weather was mildly overcast, but they weren’t aware of the storm’s severity. When the storm hit, a form of symbolism is used, “That lightning struck the main pole and sizzled down the guy wires, filling the air with blue radiance. ”(47) In this case, the dark clouds symbolize that bad times are coming.…

Once more to the Lake, by E.B. white, is a personal narrative that allows the readers to slip into the shoes of E.B. White and relive the memories he had with a lake in Maine. This personal narrative theme is more illusive, going back in time where E.B. White lived in delight as a kid who visited a same lake each summer. E.B White reflects his childhood memories when he took his son to the same lake that he grew to love. These reflections and memories are both pleasurable and saddening as he realizes nothing has changed. E.B. White uses figurative language that allows him to express his feelings as he relives the memories he once had as a child.…

CHARACTERIZATION: Pip describes Mr. Pumblechook as an undesirable character to sit with. All he does is ramble on about math and to top it off, he’s cheap. This gives more insight of how Pip is feeling at Mr. Pumblechook’s house and by doing this, Miss Havisham’s house must’ve felt quite welcoming, or at least more comfortable than his previous position, impacting how his first experience at her house was. IMAGERY: Reading this makes me feel like I’m standing right there in the yard outside of the gate.…
