There are many people who have read or seen The Lightning Theif. If you don’t already know, the book is about a twelve year old boy named Percy Jackson and what happens when he is flung into a world that he didn’t know existed - let alone know that he was a part of. As with most movie adaptations, a lot of changes were made to get the most action possible. In this case, however, there are so many changes to the point where the plots could almost be two completely different stories. Beyond character similarities, the first point of similarity is the destruction of the Camaro. Both the book and movie depict the car being destroyed as a direct attack from the Minotaur. The first of the irritating differences was how much Sally, Percy’s mother, knows about fighting between the gods in the movie. The book doesn’t portray her knowing about Zeus’s Master Bolt being stolen, or about Percy being accused of stealing it. In the movie, however, she holds conversations on these topics as she, Percy and Grover flee for Camp Half-Blood. Upon arrival at Camp Half-Blood and regaining consciousness, the book places Percy in Cabin 2, as he is yet undetermined. That fact is completely ignored in the movie and is immediately placed in a house that his father, Poseidon, had built for him. While he is placed there in the book, it happens after the game of Capture the Flag, which also has many changed details. To begin with, the book has Percy, Luke, and Annabeth on the same team, with Clarisse on the opposing team. Percy on border patrol, and Luke being the one to run across the border with the opposing teams flag. However, in the movie, Clarisse is completely erased, Annabeth is on the other team and had the flag right across the creek marking the border, and Percy as the retriever of the
