The Lightning Thief Book Vs Movie Essay

The Lightning Thief The Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief movie was very disappointing after reading the book. The movie was very awful compared to the book. The two are so different that it’s hard to believe the writers even read the book before writing the movie. For instance, the plot was watered down and changed, the way they showed the characters was inaccurate, additionally the movie is missing many details and events that were included in the book. For instance some the actors age or physical description didn't match the one in the book. The main villain throughout the book series wasn't even included in the movie.
The movie writers butchered the plot. In the book, the Oracle gives a quest to Percy telling him to go retrieve the master bolt which was stolen from Zeus, or else the gods would start WWIII. Although percy takes on the quest, secretly he is only doing it in order to bring his mother back from tartarus. On percy's adventure to retrieve the bolt, he runs into Ares, who gives him a way to get into the underworld. Ares also gives percy the container that holds Zeus’ Master Bolt. Ares played a big part in the book by being mind controlled by kronos into starting a war between the gods. Also, Ares’ fight with Percy, which was one of the best parts from the book, was left out. There was no appearance or mention of Clarisse, daughter of Ares. She played a big role in the book as she was a bully and a camp leader. Definitely one of the strongest demigods in camp. Why leave her out? Ooh, no appearance of Dionysus! He who in the book runs camp Half Blood. Overall, the book shits on the movie. Not only does the book have better portrayal of the characters, but the plot makes sense and there are plenty of details and mysteries which would leave one up at night wondering “what happens
