Introduction: The Light and the Forest was written by Conrad Richter, an award winning author. This novel/movie is about a 15 year old boy who grew up among the Lenni Lenape Indians. True Son or Johnny was captured when he was only four years old and had been adopted by an Indian family to replace a child who had died. The treaty made the Indians return all their white captives back to their birth family. This includes True Son. This marvelous book was brought to life by Herschel Daugherty in 1958. The movie and the novel have many similarities and even more differences.

Paragraph 1: Similarities The novel and the movie, Light in the Forest have many similarities. One similarity is when True Son was slapped my Uncle Wilise. In both productions

Del is a military soldier that escorts True Son from his village to Fort Pitt. Then was assigned in both the productions to protect the family. In the movie he was sent to protect True Son, but in the novel he was sent to protect the Butler’s not True Son. Also Del is a friend to True Son in the movie not a man that True Son thinks is cruel. So over all Del is a whole different character in the movie then in the book. This is important to True Son because Del is a friend not a foe. Del helps True Son through the process instead of making it worse. The second difference is that there are lovers in the movie. Del has Mille, Pardon Elder’s daughter and True Son had Shenade, Uncle Wilise’s servant girl. Shenade was in the movie instead of Goordie, True Son’s brother in the novel. This is important because in the novel Goordie helps True Son like the whites. In the movie Shenade helps him like the whites. They both tie him to his white family. The final difference is that True Son’s white father, Harry Butler is more involved with True Son in the movie than in the book. He teaches True Son how to chop wood, he cheers on True Son when he is fighting Uncle Wilise and helps him through it by giving advice. This is important to True Son because with a father he is more likely to like being with the …show more content…
Some listed above and some listed here. One difference is about a matter of True Son’s health. In the book True Son had gotten very homesick. He had no energy to do anything, he had a fever and he had condemned himself to his bed and didn’t move for days. In the movie, he fits in with the whites and doesn’t get sick. By not getting sick none of his pains ( fever, bed rest, no energy, etc.) were ever there. This is important because he isn't lying in bed, he is exploring what beauty the whites have left in there civilizations.Another difference is when True Son and Half Arrow are on there journey. In the movie the journey home is made to look not long or hard. In the novel, it is written to look like not just a journey home but a journey to find there manliness. They go the long brave way. They spend days at this one spot where they think is paradise. The Final difference is after True Son yells “ Ambush “ he is put to trial by the indians. His father in the book put charcoal on his face but in the novel he puts it on his hands. This is important because it symbolizes what his father is feeling and the emotional end.

Conclusion:
The movie and the novel are similar in more ways than one. More and more differences occur as you watch or read. Similarities are the same, but differences are different that’s what's important. The most important difference is when True Son and Half Arrow journey into men. It is important

Like many other movies derived from books, there are numerous differences. The book has many people who aren't named in the movie, and the movie shows scenes that the book does not. The book described the Abramowiczs as a fairly poor family in a small shtetl, but in the movie it shows a wealthy family in a big village. There are also many similarities between the book and the movie. Both the book and movie contain the same main ideas in the plot, and have more or less the same storyline.…

There's way more differences than similarities trust me. One of the major change is between the novel and the film is, the book moves at a slower pace than the movie. The movie moves at such a fast pace that by the time any characters die you don’t feel much for them. The book has more character development than the movie,it make feel more for the characters in the book, but the movie does not make you feel for the characters. In the movie the acting feel fake and rushed, the book feels real and more well thought out.…

In “The Landlady”, Billy Weaver is lured into a seemingly normal bed and breakfast by an old lady who, despite her gentle and unthreatening appearance, wants to kill him. It is a story about how those with cruel intent may take advantage of those who are innocent and naive. Although the book and the movie can be arguably similar if generalized, there are many differences that may change the way a reader/viewer may grasp the concept of the story. Since a movie and book cannot be exactly the same, the film version is bound to have things that differ from the text. One example of how the book develops the development of the story is with the setting.…

It seems an unfair view to expect a movie about a book to be exactly the same down to every single detail. Communities of fans will always find something wrong with a story, for it has “failed” to match expectation. Books are a place where someone can be dragged into the story and forget about everything else for a short while. Movies do the exact same thing, except it is seen as an easier way than books for a lot of people. Ignoring obvious differences (such as the fact that one is in picture form, and the other is in words), movies and books may not be so different after all.…
