Two stories, same earth, different time periods. A lot can be found similar and different between these stories. “The Life You Save May Be Your Own” and “Quitters Inc.” are two great stories and are alike in many ways. They both consist of the same basic characters, same conflict, and same cultural connection. In both stories Mr. Shiftlet from “The Life You Save May Be Your Own” and Mr. Morrison from “Quitters Inc.” try to save themselves from themselves and their own insecurities. They both face different struggles such as smoking and a personal past. Tom T. Shiftlet, A proud strong american, he’s very dedicated to the odds and ends he works on. Shiftlet has a strong mindset he just doesn’t know how to put it to use. He’s a lone wanderer he can also at points be selfish. He would put himself in front of anyone else and wouldn’t second guess. But yet Shiftlet is still limited to his ability of physical activity as he has indeed lost his arm in war. Yet he also only pretended to like the family so he could fix up and have the car. Lucynell Crater is the sweetest human being on this earth. She doesn’t quite understand the way life works for she is mentally disabled. But to her and her mother this is a blessing she is always happy she’s never down about anything. She will never have a true lover though. Lucynell Crater is deaf and mentally disabled so she will always be limited to what she will be able to do in life.
