The author of the American Idol, Leah LaBelle, once said, “Work hard for what you want because it won 't come to you without a fight. You have to be strong and courageous and know that you can do anything you put your mind to. If somebody puts you down or criticizes you, just keep on believing in yourself and turn it into something positive.” I like this quote because it encourages me as a deaf woman who still struggles and fights with many issues. I was born deaf and grew up having trouble communicating. This caused me to have trust issues. I had to move to move to different schools and travel to many different states with family and friends that I barely knew. Growing up deaf has made me learn the importance of patience, perseverance, and overcoming adversity.

I was moving around between both deaf and hearing schools. My first experience that taught me patience was when I went to the ninth grade in high school. I struggled to focus on education and myself, which prevented me from unwanted homework that was too hard for me. I grew up in a deaf school that was too easy; we played games all time and did not feel any stress. A few months later, I met a special counselor who helped me and taught me a different perspective on my education. She taught me how to set up a plan on how to manage my classwork and homework. It was too stressful, easy for me to give up and I was frustrated with my schoolwork until I was in the tenth grade.
