Upon arriving to my new unit in October of 2013, I met SFC Smith. Immediately SFC Smith let me know he was going to make my life hard and that things would not be easy. It was almost as if he would try to protect them. Leaders should always look out for and protect soldiers, but there is a certain point in which you should draw the line.
If you are a leader in the United States military you have to separate yourself from the lower enlisted and keep a very professional environment with them. For example, you cannot be on a first name basis with them. SFC Smith on occasion would take this to the extreme and would almost take the side of the soldiers over his own team leaders. This would in turn almost destroy all authority his team leaders had over them. The soldiers may not think of it like this, but it would make them doubt the team leaders and disrespect them.
After approximately 2 years of the various behaviors I have covered a breaking point was reached. A confidential matter involving regulations that SFC Smith had broken led to an investigation being done. Not many people stood up for SFC Smith when interviewed and all of the truth came out on the matter at hand. SFC Smith was forced out of the military without retirement benefits because of all of
