The Life Of Running

Great Essays
The day had arrived. Mixed emotions had suddenly started to kick in with a dose of reality, November 12th was the day to make history. From being nervous, to filled with pride, to a sense of fearfulness, to sudden jumps of extreme happiness because all you had worked for would finally pay off. We started to warm up, yet we still remained quiet as we tried to maintain concentration. Someone breaks the inevitable tension with a classic joke, but it all slowly fades away with the occasional gusty winds. The race was announced as our coach began her typical motivational speech, and all we did in response was transmit confidence through our nervous looks. We announced our cheer and proudly screamed “USC on me, USC on three, 1,2,3 ‘SC.” We approached …show more content…
In my whole life, it never ran through my head, that I would fall in love with running and especially that I would be considered a valuable asset for the team. When I started in freshman year, the only reason I joined was because I heard that involvement during high school would make your college application stand out. I started out my freshman year slower than anyone, my average mile time would be 10 to 11 minutes which for any knowledgeable runner is considered a poor time for anyone who would like to become a varsity all-star. I improved greatly my sophomore year was able to make the varsity team which made me extremely proud. Through running, I was able to see myself grow from a tiny sprout into a glowing flower as each day I ran, I took the path of …show more content…
Throughout my childhood, I was always on the look to discover that secret talent, that everyone seemed to find in their prepubescent selves. Everyone would suddenly discover that they knew how to sing, dance or even just hold a nice conversation with a stranger. Running helped me break away from my cocoon and transform into a butterfly. Running had officially transformed my life for the better because it suddenly felt like I had found my purpose in life. I never thought that it was possible for you to attain certain abilities through hard work, I would just believe that you would either be born with or without a talent which is why I rarely tried. Therefore, running gave me an eye-opening experience because although everyone might say any one can be a runner, running is easy, not everyone has the determination and commitment to become a successful runner. It all depends on your character and mental strength as your mind controls your body, thus requiring for you to always give that 110%. Being part of the cross country team helped me realize how valuable teamwork and dedication could make any losing team into a winning team any day. I never thought that I would foster a second family along with my coach slowly becoming my second mom. I learned that by being in a team you committed to always being there for your teammates because no matter what happened at the end, we knew we

At some point in time in their development, most people encounter an adult figure, who instills a positive change in their lives. For me, that person was Cindy Scannella--my track and my cross country coach for my first two years of high school. With her unique approach to coaching, Coach Scannella not only gave me the confidence to flourish in the sport and lead my team, but she also gifted me with a love for running. This passion of mine as well as her continual support has carried me through the difficulties of my grandfather’s death, my parents’ divorce, and other strenuous circumstances including the end of her time as my coach. Her presence in my life has truly altered my life for the better.…

When I was in fifth grade, I was on my school’s Girls on the Run (GOTR) team. We spent 25 or so weeks training for a 5k race, learning life lessons, and building friendships along the way. For me, the best part was the running, I had a lot of energy growing up and running was a way for me to unleash it. The lessons were, for the most part, fun, interactive activities that tricked us into learning. I can truthfully say GOTR helped shape me into the person I am today and I am forever grateful.…

I have always been fast at running. In middle school, I would always be the first to finish the mile long run for my Physical Education class. At that time, I often ran the mile in seven minutes flat, always being at least thirty seconds ahead of every other student. It was the same outcome in high school as a freshman; however, that was not the case later on. As a sophomore, I ran the mile in seven minutes, but another sophomore, George, would run it in six minutes and fifty seconds.…

Personal Narrative Essay-My First Experience Running a Race By:Avina Elangovan I used to wonder what motivates runners to go out and run each day?
