Pi uses faith to help him survive and strength. While floating in the life boat, watching the ship and his family sink, he sees Richard Parker. While coaching Richard Parker to the boat he says “And you, Ravi, dazzling hero of my childhood? Vishnu preserve me, Allah protect me, Christ save me, I can’t bear it” (98). This is an example of what people do when crisis arises. From experience, in religion people turn to god in moment when they are about to face their death or someone around them is about to face death. Instead of Pi calling out to one god he called out all of them because in his eyes he sees all of gods in the different religions as one, but in this moment of time he calls out to all of them hoping that they will all come. Martel is trying get us to see that a person can gain faith at any moment of their life.
