The hardest part for Equiano seemed to be keeping true to his origin whilst adapting to the many different circumstances he faced. His religion for one was a complex decision that forced him into trying many different churches to see which fit best and eventually felt that just reading the bible on his own and interpreting it in his way was best for him. If he didn’t adhere to these forces he would have faced repercussions that could possibly have led him to having a different experience that did not provide the many opportunities provided. He learned about his enemy, witnessed the atrocities faced by his people and decided to act based of what he had access to and what he found to be, within the realm of reality, changeable. He was a very curious being that feared God and believed that God’s plans served a better purpose. This is what allowed him to survive and what allowed him to eventually begin to pursue the abolishment of slavery. It’s a perfect example of knowing your enemy before you begin to fight
