There are times that we keep so many things in our lives that are just considered to be junk since we can no longer make use of it. However, one of the major problems is that a lot of things have sentimental value in them, but the truth is, every single thing holds a memory in it. That is why living a minimalistic lifestyle would teach you to let go of things along with their memories, you have to keep in mind that letting go doesn't necessarily mean that you have to forget about them, it just mean that you wouldn't forget them but at the same time, you're willing to have more valuable things.

FOCUSING ON WHAT IS GOOD

Another great thing about having a minimalistic lifestyle is that you wouldn't allow your life to focus on the negative side. It is a fact that you are not technically in control of your life, but it is also a fact that you can control how you react to it, as well as what you're going to do about it. Focusing on the positive aspect of life is one of the things minimalists focus on, because life is too short to ignore all the positive things.

People always ask ‘If there was a fire, what three items would you save?’ but the truth is, all your experiences and memories will never amount to those three things. In the article “Buy Experiences, Not Things,” James Hamblin uses ethos, logos, and pathos to explore the idea that those who buy experiential things rather than material things are generally happier people. His intended audience is meant to be the younger generation of millenniums. Through his use of these rhetorical devices, he is able to make the argument that buying an experience, such as a vacation or concert, generates more happiness than buying a possession, such as a computer or clothes.…

In fact, the more modest these things are the better. By getting rid of such luxuries one gets rid of their ego and is then closer to enlightenment. Ego is a power thing in today’s modern society, we care a lot about material things and we are constantly comparing ourselves to others who have bigger and better things. When we don’t have what someone else has, we feel like less of a person. It should not be this way, a person should be judged on character and morals before what physical items they possess and I fully agree with this simple Buddhist belief.…

My cat will unplug my alarm so I over sleep, then I’ll trip over my backpack in my rush to get ready and must stop and make sure my toe isn’t broken, then I’ll go apologize to my brother for waking him up late, and then when I arrive at school, I’ll realize that I left my notebook on my dresser and my pen on the bathroom counter and my laptop—that was plugged into a cord that wasn’t plugged into the wall—will have 2% battery and I’ll stumble through my entire day that way. Regular occurrences like this create a perpetual feeling of inferiority, forcing me to obsess over maintaining…

Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau both teach the importance of simplicity. Thoreau does so in Walden and Emerson in Self- Reliance. Emerson focuses on nature and the significance to appreciate it without all the distractions. Thoreau uses Emerson’s ideas and focuses on how the economy and money was taking our time away from being grateful for the little things in life. They both saw the simplicity of hard work and going for what one desires in life, to appreciate nature in a more intimate way, and to be self-reliant.…
