In Cammalleri, Hendrick, Pittman, Blout & Prather’s article (1973) they seek to find the best leadership style and they do this by comparing two models of leadership, the Life Cycle Theory constructed by Hersey and Blanchard and the Contingency Model presented by Fiedler. The Life Cycle Theory suggests that good leadership depends on how well the leader can gage his group, making the leader’s behavior more important than his personality in terms of group success. This means the leader can display a democratic, authoritative, or mix leadership style depending on the situation. I am a fully functioning manager with strong concrete sequential characteristics. Knowing all of this, I would consider myself to be most effective as the righthand man because this is where I think I’ll be most useful. I prefer to lead by example with a strong team cohesiveness, but sometimes laying down the law is required. While I can and do take leadership roles, I always do better when there is someone who can direct me and provide structure. Then I can go out and be a role model individuals will want to follow. While I have ties connecting me to the autocratic leadership style, I know this will not be effective for a long-term goal which is why building solid relationships is vital. Taking all of this and applying it to be an educational leader, means I need to be someone everyone wants to imitate. I need to be the leader who knows your name and what your interest are. I need to be the leader who administration looks to to solve problems. And, I am the leader who can show you the best way to get the job done in the most effective
