Especially in the scene of pitchforks and machetes versus rifles and canons. He managed to assemble troops of similar mind sets from around South America and also with international help. Exposing themselves to the harsh winter conditions as they cross the Andes Mountains to make it to New Granada where they were going to join and rebel together. Initially, there was great hesitation as it was illegal for the citizens of New Granada to cross the border. Nonetheless, Bolívar made another one of his exhilarating speeches. Explaining that it is not a border, it is a river and to not allow it to separate them. Because they are all sons of America. (‘Todos son hijos de America’).
Anyone with a map can see that Bolívar was unsuccessful in his aims. Although, he is still considered a heroic figure in Latin American history. I thoroughly enjoyed basing my learning portfolio on ‘The Liberator’. I found studying this film a lot more useful than what I learned in my lectures in semester one. Even though, I started off with no knowledge at all on the subject I can now say that I understand why and what the happenings were during the period of the great Simón Bolívar and the history of South America’s rebellion against the Spanish
