Imagine you are having a lovely time with your family on your trip to Russia, walking around the streets of Moscow, exploring, seeing the sights and eating the different types of food. Unfortunately, you were unaware of a parade as you were crossing the street. But, instead of seeing a happy scene, you got a firsthand view of people attacking others, police running about trying to force one person off of another, and people cursing and hitting others. Then before you know it someone is accusing you of being homosexual as well and throwing you into the thick of this fight. Next, you are being physically attacked and arrested by the police. This is what has happened to the LGBT+ people of Russia for the past ten years due to the fact that the government will not let them peacefully protest. In Russia today due to the beliefs of the people on LGBT+ topics, legal reactions have been taken to restrict and limit the view of these people and as of this fights and movements have been seen to undo these laws.
This event has actually occurred in Moscow, when police broke up an unsanctioned gay rights rally in central Moscow on Saturday, May 30, detaining around 20 people, including anti-gay campaigners who attacked the activists. (Shemetov). This has occurred every year ever since the first time Nikolai Alexeyev, the organizer of this parade, has tried to apply for a permit to peaceful protest. But they are denied every time.
