A; one letter containing many meanings. From adultery to able, the letter A in The Scarlet Letter, transforms into a symbol of shame, to a symbol of strength and grace. The meaning of the letter has changed from the beginning of the novel, to the end of the novel for the better. Through Hester transforming into a humble women, the society began to erase their views of her being a criminal, and now view her as a person “who is so kind to the poor, so helpful to the sick…” Hester Prynne now wears this letter proudly on her bosom, and it became a part of her. Not only does Hester wear a letter, but everyone wears one, whether it is good or bad, visible or not. A letter that describes me would be, O standing for the word Optimistic. Disposition or tendency to look on the more favorable side of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome define optimism. Optimism is all about perspective, optimists look at the glass half full, rather than half empty. They strive to live a life of happiness by looking at the bigger picture, and not stressing about the small things.
