Lesson Reflection

The lessons that I had planned for this week proved to be very challenging and somewhat wasteful. However, the good thing about this whole ordeal is that I have become more aware of what works and does not work for the students. I also have a better understanding of how important it is to check for students understanding and keep them engaged throughout the entire lesson. Every one of my lesson plans included powerpoints that would present the content for the subject of my lesson. I had even included quizzes at the end some of my powerpoint to engage the students. I got two different reaction to my powerpoints: disinterest and confusion. The students were either not paying attention to the powerpoint at all or needed further clarification than I had provided through the powerpoint and my lecture. I had planned on leading a …show more content…
However, I fully understand that I am learning just as the students are learning. I am learning about them as learners and how to differentiate my teaching for them. I also am learning about the importance to including all the learning styles to engage each and every student into the lesson. I now know that every teacher will encounter problems and must be flexible enough to employ a multitude of approaches when teaching a lesson. My role as a teacher holds great responsibility because I have job of educating students according to their needs and that will require many trials and errors to fully perfect. I am also happy to have my cooperating teacher to guide me educate me about her students and about the job of teaching as well. Everyday is never the same just like every student is not the same. Because of this, I now know how important it is to look for opportunities to engage my

After watching the video of ‘Kathryn Schulz: On Being Wrong’, it pointed out a lot of key factors of being a teacher and viewing students during their educational process. During the video, she pointed out that everybody is wrong in something they thought and/or do, which means nobody is perfect. But it’s the feeling and understanding of being wrong which makes us human. When it comes to teaching students as teachers we need to understand we will make a mistake when instructing our students in addition our students will make mistakes as they are learning. We need to look at the situation where the mistake is made and learn from the error instead of looking at the negativity.…

We need to not only understand our subject but also need to understand students and how they learn. I hope to still gain wider knowledge and ideas of teaching throughout my course. If I can do this, then I believe that I can be the best teacher I can be and encourage my students to want to be their best throughout their learning. My past experiences have helped me to know what type of teacher I want to be and wider research has supported and influenced my ideas. As a teacher I want to promote learning and make the students as interested as possible and my understanding of all the above points will help me develop this…

"If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?" Also, I started taking over the whole group math lesson on Tuesday. We started a new chapter on place value. I've already learned a ton from teaching these whole group lessons. They have been nowhere near perfect (In fact, I feel like I just confused the students more than anything), but I've taken the successes and failures and really looked at what I need to do to be a better teacher.…

2.) I turned 20 only a few weeks ago which means I am only beginning early adulthood, placing me right in the beginning of what Erikson believed to be the sixth stage of psychosocial development and Piaget’s final stage of Cognitive development, which he called the “Formal Operational” stage. After watching the two videos pertaining to my period of life I realized and learned that this stage is also full of questioning and experimenting to find yourself, much like the previous “teen” stage was except now we approach it in much more mature ways. I learned that it is a period that doesn’t have to be rushed as many people make it seem, “go to college, get married, get a career, have children, and work until you can’t anymore.” It made me feel…

I believe the strengths of my lesson were keeping the students on task and including all students in the lesson. I kept students on task by explaining my expectations and showing enthusiasm before the lesson. This made the students aware of their behaviors and became engaged because they sensed my enthusiasm. I grabbed their attention by doing a small version of Simon Says. For example, I said, “If you are ready to learn, touch the sky.”…

Elementary School Throughout elementary school, I do not remember many conversations regarding race. Growing up in Vermont, my exposure to diverse races were limited. I remember making a friend in second grade who had much darker skin than I had. Although, I had never had a non-caucasian friend before, I have no recollection of thinking she looked “differently” than the other white children in my class.…

During third grade, Children are really growing up. They have now experienced a couple years of elementary school and have learned the basic milestones of being children. My shadow took place within Mrs. Stevens’ third grade classroom. When I arrived the students were working within four different groups focused on the world-class outcome of creating meaning strategically in reading, writing, listening and speaking. The first group was working on vocabulary words that were written on cards, the second group was playing educational games on Slumdog, the third group was reading the previously learned vocabulary words within a story with the teacher, and the last group was drawing and writing out T-shirt designs for their recycle program.…

As the teaching session progressed, the students remained focused and paid attention to the topics on the PowerPoint and the extra explanations I was saying. They continued to actively participate by answering various questions and completing their notes with the missing key words. The general delivery of the teaching went well as shown by an average SET score of 4.2 for question 1 (Table 1). I spoke in a clear and concise manor which enabled the students to understand my descriptions and explanations of concepts clearly, and allowed them to have enough time to make any extra notes they wanted to write. Many students said that it was a “clear presentation and was easy to understand.”…

Reflection on Book Title “The Leader, The Teacher & You” I share the same sentiment with the author that “Walk the ground!” is essential for a leader to earn respect from the ground. Walking the ground also requires social competency skills such as being able to “communicate to influence” and having “interpersonal effectiveness”. In future, I will apply this principle of “Walk the ground!” by constantly engaging my superiors, peers and subordinates for their guidance and opinions through cohesion and feedback sessions on how various tasks can be done more effectively and efficiently. Through these sessions, I will seek to understand their concerns and challenges in their area of work.…

I have learned that no one does everything the same way. What may work for some does not always work for the other. Teaching styles are different but I feel like that is what makes this profession so great. We all teach differently (and similarly, too); we see how to approach one standard, objective or lesson plan differently but then we collaborate and discuss different ideas. I feel like I have learned how to look from other teacher 's perspectives to see how to teach differently.…
