In the stories “The Lesson” by Toni Cade Bambara, and “The Struggle to be an All American Girl” by Elizabeth Wong, and the poem “Indian Boarding School: The Runaways” by Louise Erdrich, each of the writers focus on the positive and negative aspects of education. While part of the setting for Louise Erdrich’s poem and Elizabeth Wong’s story take place inside an actual school, the setting for Toni Cade Bambara’s story doesn’t take place inside a school; however, for all three stories, the characters in them are taught very important lessons. When I think about the three readings it reminds me that we have important lessons in our life that we have to learn from. Everyone has a lesson they have to learn in life no matter what it is …show more content…
For example in the “Indian Boarding School: The Runaways” by Louise Erdrich the important lesson was people who wanted to get better in their life’s and get better educated they had to struggle. The government wanted the Indian Americans to struggle for their education. The Indian Americans learn the lessons because in line two it states, on page 293 that “Boxcars stumbling north in dreams don’t wait for us. We catch them on the run.” Meaning how the government get them educated but they have to struggle to get the education for a better of themselves. The government didn’t learn the lesson because he would have the Sheriff’s to look out for the Indian Americans not to catch up with their education. In line 11-15 it states, on page 294 “We know the sheriff’s waiting at midrun to take us back.” It would help Characters in school because it would show that we have different mind sets of different people and there’s some who would give their time to learn. This helps in world because there are people who are hungry to learn but they don’t where to start and there’s some countries who government really prevent them from learning because they are too
