It tells the story of a school teacher and singing instructor by the name of Ichabod Crane. Ichabod is a very tall and skinny man who has big ears and is always wearing clothes that are too small for him. He is a very strict teacher but his students still like him. Ichabod does not have any real friends. He goes from house to house of people that live in his small village and eat there. He is a very cheap man and will do anything to get some free food. The families like having him at the dinner table because he tells great stories. It was the headless horseman that he had always heard about. He could see the shape of a very big head resting on the shoulders of the horseman. Ichabod turned and started running away as fast as he possibly could. He could not run fast enough and the horseman eventually caught up. He took off his “head” and threw it at Ichabod, and he was knocked unconscious. The next morning, Ichabod did not show up for school. Search parties were sent out to find him, but he was never seen again. The only thing they found was his hat and a some of his belongings (“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”). On the ground next to his stuff was a smashed pumpkin, and that is what the horseman threw at Ichabod. Soon after this occurrence, Brom marries Katrina. No one really knew what happened to Ichabod Crane that night. Most believed that he was carried off by the headless horseman and he would never be seen again. There was just one person that knew exactly what happened, and that was Brom Bones. He knew, because he was the headless horseman (“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”).
