The Legend Of Ruth Research Paper

Improved Essays
Part of the aura surrounding Ruth arose from his modest origins. Though the legend that he was an orphan is untrue, Ruth did have a difficult childhood. Both his parents, George Herman Ruth, Sr., and Kate Shamberger Ruth, came from working-class, ethnic (German) families. Ruth, Sr., owned and operated a saloon in a tough neighbourhood on the Baltimore waterfront. Living in rooms above the saloon, the Ruths had eight children, but only George, Jr., the firstborn, and a younger sister survived to adulthood. Since neither his busy father nor his sickly mother had much time for the youngster, George roamed the streets, engaged in petty thievery, chewed tobacco, sometimes got drunk, repeatedly skipped school, and had several run-ins with the law.

His friends did not ever, nor the "gun-toting tough guys who stayed in trouble" (11) approach him with a knife or a blunt. George did well in school and he surrounded himself with people who, like himself, focused on education rather than the streets. While George sometimes wished to go off with his older brother and his brother's friends, Garland wouldn't let him. Ultimately, the separation of George and the older boys proved beneficial to George, as Garland's friends were miscreants who cared little for school. Though the older boy simply did not want his little brother tagging along, George viewed it later on as being a good older brother, something he wanted to be as well.…

After reading the book Ruth in the Bible, I was surprised at how similar the stories really were. In both stories, Boaz is extremely kind and good to Ruth, even if she was a foreigner. I was very happy to find this similarity because this point stuck out strongly to me when reading Ruth and Boaz. There were two different parts of the story that, in my opinion, were not similar. There is no proof of these two points being different however, for the author of Ruth and Boaz has written down nothing that contradicts the Bible, or at least nothing I could find.…
