The Legend Of Hollins-Personal Narrative

Improved Essays
But that’s not what happened. He had said his name and he lost all control. His voice reminded him of mowed lawns and garden hoses. He taught him how to ride a bike by taking him to the top of a grassy hill by his house. “I’m right behind you,” he whispered in his ear before giving him a push. He felt wild – out of control and travelling way too fast – but he was doing it. He was riding a bike. The euphoria was addicting and he let out a whoop. When he reached the bottom fear caught hold and he wanted stop. Now. So he squeezed the brakes and flipped. He was still at the top of the hill, not behind him like he had promised. Hollins should have known in that moment who he really was.

1 Bill Denbrough thinks: I'm damned near space-travelling; I might as well be inside a bullet shot from a gun. This thought, although perfectly true, is not one he finds especially comfortable. In fact, for the first hour following the Concorde's takeoff (or perhaps liftoff would be a better way to put it) from Heathrow, he has been coping with a mild case of claustrophobia. The airplane is narrow-unsettlingly so.…

Although the town of Holcomb is characterized by its innocence, Capote uses language to contrast the innocence and simplicity of the town before and after the murder; therefore, it makes the murder seem more personal. The essay begins in a simple and uneventful way to put into perspective how ordinary the town was before the murder. Right away, Capote explains the ordinarity of Holcomb: “the village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat plains of western Kansas, a lonesome area that other Kansans call “out there.”’ (Capote 1).…

When I wake, I go from darkness to the sunshine erupting in my eyes. I feel the need to get up but my body is working slower than my mind this morning. As I manage to lift myself up from my bed, I quickly remember that today is the day Papa leaves for his yearly hunting trip. Leaping to my feet, I dash to make sure he hasn't left yet. I slowly come to a stop when I see him fast asleep on the floor with an empty bottle of liquor placed in his hand.…

In August 1999 I had the privilege of meeting Arthur Ray Hawkins, known to many as “Coach Hawk”. Being a typical teenager, I didn’t always heed to the words of wisdom that he tried to instill into me daily. Not understanding his passion for God and people, I would often get mad when he challenged me to better. Why, because I wanted to settle for being good, yet he impelled me to be great. Not only on the football field in between the white lines, but in my daily walk in this thing that we call life.…

McKeesport isn't one of the greatest places to live. In fact, it’s probably one of the worst in Allegheny County. I moved to McKeesport when I was three. Growing up, McKeesport was always a depressing and discouraging environment.…

Today, America is a place where freedom of speech, liberty and rights are all granted by laws; however, this was not always the case. Back in 1776, when the American revolution was beginning, independence and a democratic society were non existent. In the passage, “ Thinking Through the Past”, by John Hollitz, the main idea is focused on different events and laws that caused the American revolution. Several primary sources are displayed throughout the passage that help with the upbringing of the revolution. Britain was taking away many of the citizen’s rights and they finally wanted to be free.…

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened,” (Holy Bible, Mathew 7:7-8). I have heard this Bible verse from Matthew many times, and although it’s message left little room for perception, I found myself mirroring Jesus’ Disciple, Thomas, who had to ‘see to believe.’ Sure, I prayed regularly. Sometimes those prayers were answered, and other times they were clearly neglected.…
