1.02 Self-Determination
The NASW Code of Ethics (2008) describes self-determination to provide the client the opportunity to decide own their own what is best for them. We cannot control our clients even if we believe they are making the wrong decision; in the interview our client decided to make false statements that hurt how the public view Amarillo’s shelters.
1.7 Privacy and Confidentiality In order for a social worker to truly help a client there should be a bond of trust between the two. The client should be comfortable to share and provide private information and it is the social worker responsibility to keep this information private (NASW, 2008). Our obligation to keep our client’s information private forbid us to contact the local news station and let them know that their interview was inaccurate and could hurt the local shelters in our community.
