Introduction I chose to do my research project on the legal drinking age in the United States and whether it should be lowered or stay the same. I and several of my friends who are currently under the age of 21 want it to be dropped to 18. They feel if they are considered old enough to be able to leave home to go to college, join the military, move into their own house, and pay their own bills by the government’s standards then they should have the right to decide and control what they put into their bodies. I intend to start handing these out on or around October 15th and having them finished by November 5th to allow time for data entry and analysis. They will be given out to various classmates, faculty, friends, family, and to individuals at locations where I have been authorized to hand them out; as long as they meet the age criteria for the project. The sample will be assured of anonymity if they choose to participate in the research project.
My independent variables are as follows:
• H1: More individuals will want the drinking age reduced than not because alcohol is more glamorized than it used to be; by things like social media and television.
• H2: Younger subjects will more likely agree that the legal drinking age should be lowered to eighteen than older subjects.
• H3: Caucasians will be more likely to want the drinking age dropped because they consume more alcohol than other ethnicities.
• H4: Men will be more likely than women to want the drinking age reduced because men consume more alcoholic beverages than
