How Did Theodore Roosevelt Change American Society

Presidents throughout American history are something that can generally be categorized as good or bad. Good presidents show unwavering strength and leadership, while bad instill a sense of distrust in someone that should be looked upon as a leader. History has shown both sides of these categories, but perhaps one of the finest presidents in American history is Theodore Roosevelt. Someone who started out as a sickly young boy, soon turned into an intelligent world leader, whose influence transformed American Society. The events throughout Theodore Roosevelt’s life are what shaped him into a memorable man and showcase why he is such a historically significant figure in American society. Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858 in New York City, New York. His parents, Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Bulloch Roosevelt, were part of a wealthy business class family, who treated their children to many vacations across the world. Roosevelt spent much of his childhood outside with his brother and sisters playing games of Indian and hunting frogs. Throughout his childhood Roosevelt faced many struggles with his health due to asthma and other illnesses. While he did not immediately regret this decision he soon began to disagree with his successor, William Howard Taft, on his presidential practices. In 1912 Roosevelt ran for the Republican nomination, but in the end lost to Taft. In light of this event Roosevelt created his own party known as the Bull Moose Party, which created a divide in the Republican Party. With the party divided, the Democratic nominee Woodrow Wilson was able to secure the presidency in 1912.
