For years women have been discriminated and held back from opportunities that men were open to. In Pakistan, especially, women were looked down upon for what was expected to meet a certain standard until they became superior over men. For Benazir Bhutto, the first female Prime Minister of Pakistan, it was not easy to gain or obtain. But with her power she was able to accomplish a lot for the face of Pakistan. Benazir Bhutto inspired new opportunities for women and the rest of the people of Pakistan.
On December 1,1988 Bhutto became the first female elected to lead a Muslim country. She came to power after her father, the former Prime Minister and founder of Pakistan Peoples Party, was overthrown then later assassinated. As a female, many people were in denial of her actually being able to handle all that came with the position and were very watchful of how she would do. No one believed a woman could do it. Despite of her being the former Prime Minister’s daughter, trying to persuade a Muslim country that women were capable of taking on important jobs as being Prime Minister was still stimulating. She changed the face of Pakistan, she changed how people viewed them. Bhutto opened doors not for just the rights of women but Pakistanians in general. From outsmarting her rivals that tried to get her removed from office, Bhutto showcased that a woman was capable of being a Prime Minister of a Muslim country or even having a main role in society
