The Civil War was one of the most disappointing moments of U.S. History. Having said that, it was also one of the most important moments of the country. Many believe that the United States wouldn’t be as united, powerful, and influential as it is today had it not been for the Civil War. Amid the war, there was a guy by the name of Abraham Lincoln who chose to issue the Emancipation Proclamation. It was a proclamation and executive order to abolish slavery in the rebelling states (confederation). Though, Abraham Lincoln’s goal was not to abolish slavery, his main goal was to unite the country. “If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that.” (Abraham Lincoln, 1862). But, how has this influenced the United States the world knows today?
